Ketchikan Trolley: Wildlife, Totems & City Tour

Excursion Overview

Step back in time and settle in on board our Authentic San Francisco Cable Car Style Trolley.

Relax as you take in the sights and sounds of this bustling fishing and logging community, once known as the Salmon Capital of the World. Take in the sights of flowers in bloom at City Park, the Salmon Ladder, Creek Street, with its Red-light district and wooden boardwalks. Hear the legends and stories of bootlegger’s, brothels and dance halls.

Next, we head 9 miles south to beautiful Herring Cove where we have our own Private Viewing Platform, a quaint little cove that takes you far away from the downtown hustle and bustle. Get your cameras ready as bald eagles, seals and heron can be spotted in the area. Keep a close eye out as hungry bears, often with spring cubs can be seen feasting on a bounty of returning salmon (June -Sept.).

Back on board the trolley, we head to the Totem Park of Saxman Native Village, where the world’s largest collection of Totem Poles, their stories and art work with rich native culture await you. Browse the park and learn the stories and history of these grand historic carved works of art. Some of the poles were moved from old Cape Fox Lodge and are over 100 years old.

Learn of traditional tools, paints and techniques of totem pole carving as you watch carvers perform their craft at the carving shed. Next stop back to town, your guide concludes the tour at either Creek Street where you can stroll the boardwalk with its many shops or be dropped off in the middle of the downtown area, just minutes from your cruise ship.
