Excursion Overview

Journey to Haines and explore the tributaries of the Chilkat River by Jet Boat

Your tour starts with a glacial fjord ferry ride to the town of Haines, known as the adventure capital of Alaska. Meet your guide and embark on a short tour of this quaint town with a stop at "Picture Point" for your memorable photo of Historic Fort William H. Seward with the Chilkat Mountains in the backdrop.

Then it is off to the adventure part of your tour as your guide drives you up the Haines Scenic Byway to our private property. This is where you prepare for your jet boat tour and your journey through the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. The boat is powered by very quiet four-stroke outboard jet motors and is uncovered for the best wildlife, scenery, and photography opportunities. Moose are often the highlight of the tour along with bald eagles with their massive nests that are dotted along the river banks. If you encounter a moose, bear, or any other wildlife, your captain can stop the boat so you can get your Alaska photo of a lifetime!

On your way back towards Haines, you will get to stop at the American Bald Eagle Foundation for more live raptors and memorabilia from the gift shop.

This excursion offers everything in a small group setting of up to 24 guests maximum. Warm and friendly staff provide customer service at the highest level. Extra outerwear to stay warm and dry is provided as well as lunch in a covered, heated pavilion with modern facilities. So bring a smile and you will leave with memories, photos, and a greater appreciation for the Alaskan wilderness and the people who call it their home!

This excursion was one of the top 2 excursions I have ever been on! We lucked out and saw a female moose, a mama bear and her baby cub, a few bald eagles, a swan, and an otter! What more could anyone ask for!? The bus driver was very knowledgeable and funny! The jet boat guide was also very knowledgeable and had many great stories to share! Everything about this tour was fantastic - including the ferry ride to Haines with their Naturalists telling us facts and stories. :) Amazing all around! My only complaint is that i wish there was more time on the jet boat! They had to cut it a little short because there was massive road construction going on between the Haines ferry dock and the jet boat dock, which took much longer to get there than usual, and we couldn't be late to get back, so they had to cut the jet boat part a little short. They're working fast, so hopefully it won't hinder the tours for much longer.

First, Alaska Shore Excursions and the tour operator really exceeded expectations on this tour. We were very impressed with their excellent customer service. Now for the tour. We took a 45 minute ferry ride from Skagway to Haines. The guide on the boat kept us entertained with details about the area we were travelling through. The scenery along the waterway was spectacular. In Haines we were met by our bus driver. She was delightful and was a capstone to a wonderful day. She entertained us with very funny stories about eagles, moose and a bear. She educated us about Haines and the surrounding area. She was worth the price of the trip. I wish I could remember her name (I'm terrible with names). At the river, we met our captain CP. He took us along the river. We saw moose and black bears, lots of birds, etc. He was friendly, well informed and really worked hard to ensure we had a great experience during the day. We stayed watching the two black bears interact with each other for at least 20 minutes. Back on shore, we had a lunch of all beef hot dogs, vegetarian chili, chips and cookies. We then retraced our journey home and it was just as entertaining as the way in. All in all, a wonderful day and excellent value for the money. I would definitely recommend this tour. It is a lot of hours but filled with great Alaskan memories. Larry from Salt Lake City, UT
