Anchorage Bike and Tram Girdwood Tour

This tour is perfect if you are looking to feel like an Anchorage local for a day and explore the great outdoors that surround this Alaskan City. Beginning at Bird Creek, you will follow your local, knowledgeable Alaskan Guide as they take you on a ride along Turnagain Arm. Just an offset from the nationally designated scenic Seward Highway which is one of the most scenic drives, you can observe the beauty of the mountains meeting the ocean. This bike path off Turnagain Arm is one of the most scenic bike rides in the area. There will be ample opportunities to make stops along the way to learn more history and geological features of the area while possibly sighting some of Alaska's amazing wildlife.

After taking in the fresh air, scenery, and wildlife along this ride you will end your ride in Girdwood. The guide will share the history of this old mining town, turned ski town, as you bask in the views of Girdwood Valleys with surrounding mountain and glaciers. After loading up all the equipment the next stop is the Alyeska Resort! Enjoy a view with lunch after you take the Tram up 2,000 feet above the valley floor, where you can take in 360-degree views of the mountains and glaciers around Turnagain Arm. There will be enough time to walk around the Roundhouse Museum, which is on the National Historic Registry.

Included: Bike & riding safety gear. Minimum age is 14 years old. Minimum height is 4'7".

Duration: 7.5 hours (Transportation is not included. Bike riding: 3 hours. Tram: 1.5 hours.)

  • 30 minute transport time to Bird Creek starting point
  • 15 minute equipment and safety outfitting and briefing 
  • 12 mile bike ride that is up to 3 hours in duration

  • 1.5 hours for ride up/down the Tram and lunch stop
  • 1 hour transport to Shuttle Bus Stop at the Downtown Anchorage Visitors Center Log Cabin

  • Must know how to ride a bike, use hand brakes and shift gears for this tour
  • Must be physically fit and capable of riding a bike for up to 3 hours on gently hilly paved bike path
  • Closed toe shoes

How far will we ride?

This ride is 12 miles long on a paved bike path with rolling hills (an average of 400 feet of elecation gain/loss). This ride takes up to 3 hours with photo and information stops over the course of the ride.

What kind of bikes will we ride?

Kona Dew Hybrid Bikes: These are a light weight bike with an aluminum frame and is built for comfort.  This bike is designed for a day of exploring.  

Specialized Roll: a step through bike (has a low bar, about 1 foot off of the ground) and sits upright.  Great for those with restricted mobility or who do not ride often

What if I get too tired and do not want to bike the entire distance?

This tour is a point-to-point and the driver guide and vehicle meets the group at the halfway point. This is a scenic overlook perfect for pictures, changing layers, having a quick snack, and/or getting a drink of water. If you choose, the driver guide will load your bike up and you can continue to tour via vehicle and will meet up with the group at the end of the bike ride. To ensure the most enjoyable experience we encourage our guests to select a biking trip that matches best with their skills and fitness level. For this tour we recommend that guest gets an average of 3-4 hours of exercise per week and are comfortable shifting gears on a bike.

Are food and drink included? 

Light Snack, water bottle, and lunch after bike ride.  Lunch will be a box lunch provided by the Middle Way Cafe, a locally ownded and operated cafe.  Lunches have gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian options to accommodate guests with dietary restrictions.

Will I see any wildlife on this tour?

Moose, black bears, bald eagles and beluga whales are also seen on this tour however is not a designated wildlife tour and specific wildlife cannot be guarenteed.  You will be with experienced guides who will have bear spray and are familiar with the wild life area.
