Steve Kroschel's Wildlife Center, located in Haines, provides guests an opportunity to witness Alaskan wildlife up close and personal. While most guests are traveling in a large group tour, this excursion offers a rare opportunity for a private visit. This private tour allows guests to spend time with an array of Alaskan mammals such as wolf, lynx, wolverine, moose, porcupine; many of which are extremely challenging to see in the wild, especially at close proximity.
The tour starts with a scenic boat trip along the fjords that connect Skagway to Haines. More than a dozen waterfalls drop hundreds of feet along the fjords on either side of the boat along the passage. Guests will often spot bald eagles and harbor seals on this journey as well.
Arrival in Haines will bring guests to meet their knowledgeable and friendly local guide for a drive up the Haines Highway, a National Scenic Byway, and through the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. Along the drive, guests can take in views of glacier-clad mountains, beautiful wildflowers lining the road, and green riverside channels that provide habitat for moose, bear and trumpeter swans. Guests will have plenty of photo opportunities of the wildlife and scenery along the journey.
Being a private tour, guests will have more flexibility in terms of how much time is spent with each species, and they won't have to work around other guests for photography. Guests will be able to enjoy a picnic lunch on the way back to Haines. Boarding the Fast Ferry to Skagway will return guests to their ship with memories of an unforgettable adventure.
