Visiting the Taiya Inlet and exploring the White Pass all the while looking for WildLife gives you the best of both worlds with this afternoon tour!
Spawning fish make their way from the ocean and up the Taiya River evey summer. With them they bring all types of predators looking for a quick and easy snack. On this tour we take you for a stunning ride along the Taiya Inlet, out towards the Dyea Flats, the mouth of the Taiya River and the historic Chilkoot Trail head. This area is well known as a feeding ground for an assortment of wildlife including black bears, grizzly bears, seals, sea lions, bald eagles, golden eagles and many other types of birds who arrive with the spawning fish.
You've seen the ocean and now it's time to head up the pass and into the mountains! Rise from rich coastal rain forest to the spectacular views of the Tormented Valley nestled at the summit in between snow capped mountains and glacier fed lakes. Phenomenal photo opportunities are abundant as you rise from sea level to 3300ft in elevation past pristine waterfalls and prodigious valleys, finishing the climb with the outstanding view from the "Welcome to Alaska" sign.
Be sure to keep your eyes open for moose, mountain goats and fox pups in the overgrowth on the sides of the roads. Between the frequent stops allowed for finding your inner professional photographer, the beautiful Alaskan scenery, opportunities to learn fantastic facts about the 1898 Gold rush, notorious characters who once called Skagway home, and the chances of seeing wildlife, this relaxing and gentle tour has a little something for everyone!
