How about a custom tour from a local guide in the capital city of Alaska to kick things off? This deluxe Juneau tour is one of the most popular options and hits the city's main attractions up-close by motorcoach. The fully narrated tour guided by a local driver begins in downtown Juneau and offers an excellent history of the state's capital city and its scenic attractions, including the famous Mendenhall Glacier.
Starting in the famous streets of historic downtown Juneau, the tour will take you right by the Governor's Mansion, Alaska state Capitol, and world famous Red Dog Saloon. You will enjoy narration and information as you roll past the city's highlights.
From there you will drive along the scenic Gastineau Channel and Wildlife Refuge to the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. Take in the massive and mighty Mendenhall Glacier from afar and see it's rugged crevasses and a vibrant blue color shimmer on a sunny day.
At the glacier you will have approximately 45 minutes to explore the walking paths and the U.S. Forest Service Visitor Information Center. This area is located roughly 3/4 of a mile from the face of the glacier and offers excellent views of the Mendenhall Valley. Make sure you have your camera ready to snap photos of the famous black bears feeding on wild Alaskan salmon as you walk along raised trails over salmon spawning streams; it's truly a memorable experience!
The tour comes to an end with a stop at famous Douglas Island, an historic mining community, for photo opportunities and panoramic views across the ocean to downtown Juneau. You will then arrive back to the main cruise ship terminal, close to shopping or your ship, whichever you choose to end your day!
Included: Admission to the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor's Center.
Please note: Unable to accommodate wheel chair guests as there are no lifts available on the motorcoach.
